In 2000 Henk and Carol spent a rainy afternoon visiting a holiday home fair in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
There was actually only one house, at 'Lago di Como' which got our attention. So Italian..! The fading paint on the walls, bleached by the sunlight. The thick walls that cool the house in summer. With a splendous lake-view...
Shortly after visiting the beurs, we went to Italy to have a look at the house. We immediately loved it. And so we engaged our adventure to buy a house in Italy. In the beginning with 2 friends, but nowadays with our children. Our children are very enthousiastic and want to keep Case Fitzcarraldo as a familyhome for the future.
We not only fell in love with the house, but also with the surroundings of Lago di Como.
From the terrace you can see the boats pass by or wander at the people from the water-ski center perform their tricks. Along the lakeshores you can experience culture where everywhere every population left its own habits. The terraces, markets, shops and the delicious food. The wonderful Italians who accepted us as inhabitants of their borgo and are so much more than just neighbours.
By now, 3 diaries have been filled with experiences and messages of people that enjoyed a stay in Casa Fitzcarraldo. Some people visited the house over 10 times.
Whether you go swimming in the lake, hiking in the mountains or relax on the couch in front of the fireplace. The days always provide you with quietness, fun for everyone, and as extra…… an Italian dream.
